Strathy Students Votes Yes to Nus… Well, some of them
Affiliation to NUS costs £49,000 annually but allows the USSA to have government-recognised representation at national level and cheaper drink prices, thanks to a bulk buying policy amongst NUS’s 600 member institutions.
Of those who voted, 422 said ‘yes’ and 79 said ‘no’, the majority of the latter being 4th year engineers according to former USSA President Neil Campbell, who ran the ‘Yes’ campaign.
Speaking after the election, Neil said, “I'm delighted by the result and I don't think there was ever any doubt that the students of Strathclyde would say yes to NUS, an organisation that we've always played a big part in.

Aaron will take over from current President Wes Streeting in June 2010 for an initial twelve month term. For the past two years he has served as NUS Vice President (Higher Education), and before that he studied English Literature at the University of Leicester and served as a sabbatical officer at the students’ union.
